1:32 am. Haven't been up at this hour (sober) for awhile! Was able to have a nice dinner at Granite City with my dear hubby and one of his associates. Great conversation, good food, and I discovered a new wine I like but I can't remember (and could barely pronounce) the name!
Little Stevie is asleep on the recliner here in the office. He tried to come in and sleep with us earlier but was so squirmy - this is when I had to get up - I couldn't sleep anyway. I'm thinking about my to'dos for the upcoming Zumbathon. Getting my ducks in a row.
Nicholas survived his first "bad note" from the teacher for talking too or more appropriately, "failing to use his active listening skills." He was pretty embarrassed about having the note sent home. Mike and I both had separate talks with him and he has since done better. He's proud now when he comes home with a "zero" which means he had no warnings. Sometimes it pays to be a zero.
And Miss Macy is becoming my biggest adversary. God I love her but she's really figuring out how to get under mamma's skin - or maybe like countless daughters before her she was just born with this skill. Most of the time we're cool but she does like to push it with me - at school she's an angel:) She's becoming best friends with Kelsey down the street and they play together almost every day.
Mike is busy at work, a bit stressed but always calm, cool and collected. Even though I see him every day, I miss him and long for some time alone with him. I need to plan a little get-away, the hell with the cost.
With this I will carry my pooky up to his bed and see how long he stays in it. I shall retire to the bath where I shall await drowsiness. Good night.

Ha Ha! My last post said I would get caught up but here it is two months later. Sometimes I long for those days when I had so much time during the morning and evenings to write, but then I mentally place myself back there and remember how empty my life really was before my chaotic family life. I do wish for super memory though so when I do have time I can document all the special things that happen during these crazy days that - according to many of my wise elders - will be gone in the blink of an eye.
Like I alluded to in my last post... We took a two week vacation early July. Mike had to be out of town for a week for business so the kids and I took off on a roadtrip. We headed toward Indianapolis first where we stopped by the Colts stadium. We spent most of the day there, eating a picnic lunch (grapes, carrots, cheese, crackers that I retrieved from our fridge before we left) at a downtown fountain and gave our extra food to a homeless man. It was a humbling experience - he looked up at me with an expression of disbelief and said, “Really? I can have this? Really?” I felt so good about helping him I went and got him a big bottle of water, too. The kids learned a little something too. It was a lesson for them that they have so much more than a lot of people. They still talk about that man and wonder where he is sleeping.
From Indianapolis we drove to St. Louis. We got a hotel room and swam at the pool that night and the next morning drove downtown to check out the Rams stadium. Not really that impressive from the outside. In fact, I kinda felt like I might get mugged walking around down there. We drove by (didn’t go in) the Arch and also checked out the Cardinals stadium.
From there we headed to Kansas City stopping for lunch Columbia, Missouri. We also stopped at a Candy Factory where we could watch the candy being made.
We made it to my sister Monti's in Kansas City that night. We stayed with them for two nights. My brother in law had just gotten a new motorcycle so we all got to take rides. He took me out into the country on some beautiful windy and tree-lined roads and I loved it. I hadn’t been on a motorcycle since high school! I definitely would like a motorcycle in my future! We also got to spend quality time with Monti & Chase - they took us to an awesome mall where we ate at a dinosaur themed restaurant. Oh, and you guessed it… we visited the Chiefs & Royals stadiums!
From there we headed to my brother Luke's house in Sterling. He holds a 1 Mile and 5K run every summer as a fundraiser for the school and I actually took part this year. The route is through the pasture on the farm where I grew up. My cousin Sharla & I ran the 1 mile (with the kids) & finished in 10 minutes 45 seconds. I can usually do a mile on the track in 9 minutes but in this race I had to contend with some hills and uneven dirt/grass surfaces. I was pretty proud of us for finishing and we're planning on doing the 5K next year.
So by this time Mike was through with his business trip and flew into Omaha to meet up with us. Once he arrived we spent three nights at Mahoney State Park camping with his sister’s family. We were able to go on a trail ride on horseback, paddleboat, golf and hang out at an awesome wave pool. Funny story - I got knocked down by a big wave and came up with the top half of my bathing suit down! I fixed it pretty quick but a young boy, probably about 9 or so saw everything, pointed and said, “Whoa!!!” I was laughing so hard… poor kid got his first thrill!
We also spent some quality time at Mom's and I got to see my high school BFF for lunch - yay!
After two weeks away it was nice to be back home and on a normal schedule. I really missed my Zumba classes and couldn’t wait to get back at it. I have also added running to my fitness schedule (preparing for next year's 5K) and am up to 1.5 miles three times per week.
Which brings us to September. Macy and Nicholas started school at St. Vincent de Paul this year and are doing really well. Nick adjusted smoothly, Macy still has her moments where she feels like she "doesn't fit in" but I know it's all a matter of time. She joined Girl Scouts through the school/church and I'm confident that this will do nothing but bring great relationships into her life. Nicholas will start Flag Football this weekend with Mike as coach. And little Stevie is at "school" as well two mornings a week at Pine Hills Preschool. He thinks he's pretty hot stuff getting ready, grabbing his back pack and being dropped of at the door. One his first day he came home and said excitedly, "Mom I have homework!" Upon looking in his bag I discovered a sheet of paper which was our statement for payment... I went ahead and let him color all over it for his "homework!"
Speaking of preschool - it is time for me to head on over to pick him up. I'm enjoying my two mornings per week to myself - this morning I spent two hours cleaning the toy room - fun stuff! I have a plan to turn it into a media room so I guess cleaning it up was Phase I.
Off to pick up my little man.
